As North Wales band, BAD DOG take to the stage there is a warm welcome from the gathering crowd, some of which are members of this band’s steadily growing fan base. This is the third time I have seen the band this year and they always deliver a blistering set.

They kick off with their usual opener ‘Deadman’s Shoes’ from their debut EP and follow this with a range of self-penned songs including ‘Jupiter’, ‘Primal Scream’ and the wonderful ‘Pretty Little Thing’. As they power through their scorching set the audience greet each number enthusiastically.

“We’re here to warm you up for Dan Baird and the Home-Made Sin,” quips lead singer Martyn Byast. They more than do their job during the 45 minutes they grace the Tivoli stage.

They complete their set with ‘Clutch’ which gives all members of the band the opportunity to showcase their skills. Martin Byast sings with passion while playing captivating guitar riffs, Oli Owen struts the stage and beyond while delivering some wonderful guitar, Mark Beech is as steadfast as ever on the drums while Ben Langley plays a thundering bass.

They play the Tivoli again on the 2nd of November when they support GUN. Go see them if you get a chance.

DAN BAIRD AND THE HOME-MADE SIN are regular visitors to the UK and are renowned for their pulsating live performances. Former lead singer with the Georgia Satellites, Baird is joined on drums by Satellite bandmate, Marvo Magella, Guitarist Warner E Hodges, previously with Jason and the Scorchers and new boy Sean Savacool on bass.

Labelled as the “Where were we?” tour on account of their extensive 2017 tour being cut short when Dan contracted an aggressive form of Leukaemia and was forced to sit out the second half of the year. The good news is that Dan is back and in fine form.

The band play without a set-list preferring to deliver a different selection for each performance. Dan joked at one point “we make this shit up as we go”. The band are seasoned professionals who know their craft and how to work an audience with excellent music and playful interaction with the crowd.  As Dan says “We don’t take ourselves too seriously,” and this is evident in the entertaining banter between Warner Hodges and himself throughout the show.

The songs they play tonight as always feature a mixture of Georgia Satellite numbers and offerings from their growing catalogue of Homemade Sin albums. ‘Ever Lovin’ Mind’ and ‘Bust Your Heart’ from the latest album Screamer have all the hallmarks of future crowd favourites with Dan stating that “the band want to play some of the new we’ll get around to the old stuff later.” They certainly deliver on their promise.

The audience lap up each number joining in on the chorus on a sublime delivery of ‘Two for Tuesday’ from their 2008 self-titled album. Georgia Satellite favourites ‘Keep Your Hands to Yourself’ and ‘All Over But The Crying’ follow on. The more familiar songs keep coming including ‘Shake It Til It’s Sore’, ‘Let It Shine’, ‘Do My Worst’, ‘Crooked Smile’ and ‘I Love You Period’ which sees all outfield members of the band taking a turn on vocals.

The band receive rapturous applause at the end of the show and the crowd leave the venue having been entertained by a band who know how give an audience a rocking good night out. Dan and the boys are doing more dates over here in November. Get your tickets while you can.
