Michale Graves returned to the U.K. for the first time in almost 20 years and within hours of the announcement his show in Cardiff had sold out. The opening time had been pushed back by a half hour and the front bar of Fuel was packed. You could sense the anticipation in the growing crowd.

The first act of the night were Belfast Rockers, So Long Until The Seance, otherwise known as the S.L.U.T.S. Taking the stage looking like they’ve come out of a George Romero movie they struck up with ‘Dead Boys’ a heavy paced opening track which grabbed my attention and they had me and the audience hooked. Their style of rock is a blend of sleazy, punk influenced music, heavy with a sometimes melodic feel. A great way to open up the evening as they played a number of tracks of their EPs ‘Seducing The Devil’ and ‘Vulvar Myiasis’ they entertained the growing crowd.

The packed and sold out Fuel was now ready for the Main Act, Michale Graves. Taking to the stage to a wall of noise the high energy set begins with ‘Bedlam’, a perfect track to start as the crowd go wild. The second track ‘American Psycho’ gets the vocals of the crowd warmed up with them joining in during the chorus chant. It’s not often that a small independent venue makes such a noise that it would rival most stadiums but this was one of those times.

Michale Graves back catalogue is full of ‘in your face’ punk rock. The relentless drums of Tony Baptist and bass of Christopher Dean together with the masterful guitar work of Carlos Cofino (aka Loki) build a platform for Michale Grave’s vocals to leap from, powerful with an amazing tone. The Fuel crowd were lapping this up, bouncing and forming a mosh pit of sorts. Dipping into Michale’s own material interspersed with some of the Misfits classics this was a night to remember for the majority of the crowd.

Taking a short break to thank the S.L.U.T.S for opening up for them and to thank the audience for selling out tonight’s show and mentioning that they would be back a few days later for a second Cardiff date which was very close to selling out too. Michale explained that he wasn’t a fan of the ‘Encore pretentiousness’ where bands leave the stage and wait for the crowd to chant for their return but thanked the crowd once again for attending one of his first UK shows in almost 20 years and as an extra thank you for selling out this show the band were going to add 4 additional tracks to their set.  Fuel was on fire, with the roof almost lifting off the place as they played ‘Helena’ with members of the S.L.U.T.S. joining the crowd to rock out for the last few songs of the set. If tonight was anything to go by Saturday should be another special night in Fuel.
