Opening the second stage first thing on Sunday morning were Devon four-piece, Departed. At the back end of what has been an incredible year of gigs for them, we caught up with Mark and Ben.

DTF: So, Sunday Stage 2 openers at Planet Rockstock 2017, how was it?

MP - A bit bloody earlier if I’m honest haha, but it went down so well! We were amazed by the volume of people that
were up and eager to get going for the day! They were even queuing outside the
door at 10:30am!

BB - It was always a worry opening the final day of a festival after so many would have had such a late night partying
the night before, but it was really overwhelming how many people were kicking the door down to see us! We were taken back by the support and just how many fans lined up at the merch to meet us after the show.

DTF: Not an easy task to get everyone out of bed for an early start but the venue was packed for you, which must have
been great for you all?

MP - It wasn't easy for us getting up at 5am and travelling straight to Rockstock to open the stage but everyone else
appeared to push pass their hangovers and the previous late nights and it didn't seem to affect them. We were very pleased with the turn out along with many DEPARTED T-Shirts on show too!

DTF: How did you find the crowd reactions?

MP - Loud! It was great playing to a really appreciative crowd, who clearly love their music!

BB - The crowd got behind us right from the first chord it was incredible. Either the Rockstock crowd are all morning
people or they were serving some excellent coffee!

DTF: You’re a fantastic live band and often gain many new fans from gigs, how do you ensure that you continue to
raise the roof each time you play?

MP - I think that is mainly down to the fact that we love what we do. Ben and I always set out to form a band that
would be really strong live. Nothing is really planned out apart from the order of songs, everything else happens naturally.

DTF: You’ve had a huge amount of momentum this year; toured with Michael Schenker, and supported Big Country and Inglorious, as well as having other shows and great festival slots; but what has been your highlight of 2017?

MP - There have been so many amazing moments to be honest but the whole Schenker tour was incredible. Playing such prestigious venues alongside so many rock giants and to such an amazing reception. It felt like our hard work was starting to pay off! We met so many awesome people along the way and we hope to be back soon!

BB - The Schenker tour was the tip of the Iceberg, but for me feeling the buzz build throughout summer and playing at
a lot of really varied festivals was something special. It was always our goal to not be pigeon holed and to be able share a bill with artists that aren't typically rock acts, and this year really gave us the confidence that we’re on
the right path.

DTF: What plans do you have in the pipeline for 2018? If recording any new material, what can we expect from that?

MP - In 2018 we hope to build on what we've achieved so far, we have a few things in the pipeline so keep an eye out.
We are looking to record again in the new year as we have been writing over the past year and it's really exciting stuff! I really can't wait to get our new tracks down and to see what everyone thinks!!!

BB - WORLD DOMINATION!!!!

DTF: Any festival dates that you can tell us about?

MP - Not yet, but keep an eye on Facebook.com/departedbanduk for updates and announcements.
