TYKETTO / KANE'D - The Cluny, Newcastle 26.11.17

ANDY TURNER

The iconic venue ‘The Cluny’ was packed to its two floor rafters as Kane’d took to the stage. This 7-piece are known as hard rockers and tonight’s billed acoustic set would see some of their well-known tracks delivered in a raw form.

The three girls, Stacey, Chez and Steph on vocals ably supported by the 4 guys delivered a great set with all members of the group seeming to have great fun and a good laugh. Chatting between the songs, the girls had great interaction with the crowd. It was a really fantastic set for such a large group on a very small stage.

‘Beautiful but Tragic’, ‘Wasted’, ‘Rise’, ‘Guilty of Nothing’, ‘Shot at Redemption’, ‘Covered in Roses’ and finishing with ‘La Di Da’, each song sounded good stripped back and I look forward to seeing and hearing these guys again with their full high energy rock set.

The Cluny is a favourite venue for Tyketto and the sold-out crowd expectantly waited for this last leg of the ‘Reach’ tour.

These seasoned pros know exactly how to please their fans with a great mix of old songs and the new album tracks ensuring that this was another night to remember. Danny Vaughn has the pipes and delivers cracking vocals song after song, full of energy and packing in stories and memories of trips to the North in the past noting that they had actually recorded a live CD up here. These are one of the best bands around to engage a crowd and hold their attention until the lights come back up and the PA’s turned off.

Chris Green was just wonderful to watch on guitar and Michael Arbeeny (drums) is a beast and gave the gig the power. Ged Rylands on keyboards brings a fullness to the sound and fill-in bass player for this tour, Greg Smith ensured the big boots of Chris Childs were filled whilst he is on Thunder duties. The band know each other so well and obviously all love performing together, this was another great ‘Tykes’ night. A few surprises on the set list including ‘Heaven Tonight’ but fever pitch was reached with the firm favourite ‘Forever Young’ which is an anthem for the band, one sung at full power by Danny and the other 300 people or so in the room. A great night!
