The Camden underworld hosts an impressive line-up tonight and kicking off the night in style is Gypsy Heart vocalist Heather Leoni who is joined by 18 year old guitar prodigy Danny Dela Cruz.

Opening their set with a cover of The Rival Son’s ‘Open My Eyes’, the duo glide through a beautiful set of acoustic originals and two choice covers. ‘Rivers’ is a fast paced folk-rock song with a hold-your-breath bridge that really shows off Heather Leoni’s voice. While it doesn’t have the sledge-hammer power of somebody like Beth Hart, hers is a softer and hugely emotional voice that suits the songs perfectly.

A cover of the Chris Isaac classic ‘Wicked Game’ follows - it’s sparse, slightly haunting rendition of a wonderful song. "We only wrote this song 2 days ago,” Heather tells the crowd, “so if it goes terribly f*cking wrong you won't know!" A moody country tinged number, ‘Heart Of Black’ goes down brilliantly.

Danny Dela Cruz on the guitar is just a marvel. Playing with a passion and experience that far surpass his young age, he is simply superb throughout. Ending with the bluesy and soulful ‘Redemption’, the pair take their bow amidst big applause.

Next up are new boys on the scene SwitchBlade City. Lighting up the stage with their twin guitars and monster drum roll, ‘Call The Doctor’ brings people hurrying back from the bar to see who is playing. To cut straight to the point, I was totally unprepared for how good these guys are. The pounding drums that kick off ‘Dead Behind The Eyes’ lead us into a modern hard rock song that reminds me of Voodoo Six.

"Let’s slow things down a bit,” says frontman Sean Seabrook, “this song is called ‘Guilty’”; a ballad in the vein of Alter Bridge, the crowd nod their approval.

"This goes out to all of you crazy mother f*ckers out there - it's called `Made Me Like This`”. The twin guitars of Rory Lewis and Tyler White dig into a hard rocker which sounds like prime album cut Tremonti. For a band with only a single E.P. out their level of musical chemistry and focus is truly impressive. I, for one, am looking forwards to their sophomore EP and their next London show.

Emerging to the chords of recent Moonking’s single ‘Tightrope’, Adrian Vandenberg is greeted with a roar of approval and excitement from a packed Underworld. Still cutting an almost unbelievably sharp figure at 64, watching Vandenberg is truly watching a master at work. His playing is restrained and tasteful enough to let his whole band shine but when the mood takes him he can still rip and shred with the very best of them. Weaving a few Whitesnake gems into a set dominated by his own original songs, his flawlessly tight four piece band provide the perfect foil for his playing.

After about 45 mins of electric playing, Adrian Vandenberg whips out the acoustic guitar and puts his feet up for a superb unplugged version of ‘What Doesn't Kill You’ from the last MoonKings album before a simply stunning version of Whitesnake’s ‘Sailing Ships’ which sends chills up my arm. Singer Jan Hoving’s voice is at times so similar to Coverdale’s voice it’s spooky. The Les Paul is plugged back in for another Whitesnake classic, ‘Judgement Day’. With its thundering drums and the very definition of a monster riff, it’s jaw dropping and also my personal highlight of the set.

Followed by Mart Nijen-Es’ epic drum solo, the band return to their original songs with the straight-up rocker ‘Reputation’ and the extended jam of ‘The Fire’.

‘Lust and Lies’ brings the house light down and closes the main set before the band return for their well deserved encore. “So we have a special guest tonight,” Adrian Vandenberg declares before the roars from the front-row show that almost everyone has heard who the not-so-surprise guest is already. Emerging to screams of fans, Inglorious front-man Nathan James joins the band for a blast through ‘Here I Go Again’. There really aren’t many adjectives left unused to describe Nathan’s voice so I will simply stick with “flawless”.

Ending their set with a joyous run through of Led Zep’s ‘Rock And Roll’, the band take their bows. It’s a fitting end to the night as Adrian Vandenberg, not to mention the support bands and special guests, have proven that Rock and Roll is alive and well across different generations.
