Another evening spent in the company of Gill Montgomery, Sam Wood, Ricky Warwick and Damon Johnson and several hundred other folks? Can I take anymore great music and funny stories? Oh yes please!

Beginning the evening’s music are Gill Montgomery and Sam Wood. The nerves which were visible last week have well and truly dissipated and a very confident performance ensued.  Gill smiles throughout the set, comfortable playing alongside Wood and they sound tighter than the opening night, relaxing into their performance and finding an ease in their playing.  Gill’s voice sounds stronger than ever and ‘Still Got Rock and Roll’, ‘White Russian Roulette’, ‘Come and Get It’, ‘Let the Neighbours Call the Cops’, ‘Stay With Me’ (Cover), ‘Whatever Gets You Through The Night’ and ‘Everything I learned I learned from Rock and Roll’ have the assembled crowd singing along.

Gill and Ricky Warwick have written songs together and I’m not sure if this connection helped to connect the crowd to her but it could have been the performance alone. A really great set.

The Robin always has a great atmosphere and tonight was no exception, a half-seated gig, many where pulling up their chairs, getting comfortable with a drink ready to sit and listen.  It is a special night, not just the music with hearing Lizzy, BSR songs plus others from their careers played acoustically is fabulous, but it is the tales that go with them. Some of their recollections are moving, but the majority are just bloody funny. Warwick has an ability to relay a story in his Belfast accent in such a dead pan manner which adds to the hilarity. I am not detailing his stories, I cannot do them justice. Johnson has a similar manner, stories told easily as if chatting with old friends rather than a room of a couple of hundred people. He bounces off Warwick and as I have said on a previous occasion, these two are obviously friends and banter accordingly.

The set list included a mix of all that is good from their careers with a spattering of covers, ‘Killer Instinct’, ‘18’, ‘Blindsided’, ‘Dancing With The Wrong Girl’, ‘Jailbreak’, ‘Wild and Wonderful’, ‘Ace Of Spades’ (on acoustic? Yes really!), and ‘Whiskey In A Jar’. The songs sounded amazing and the guys voices sublime, blending harmoniously, each leading songs for the other to provide the backing, seamless and effortless. There are so many smiling faces around the room not just at the funny stories but also at the songs, the way they are performed, the memories they evoke, the fact that everyone there knows the words, it becomes a sing along, Warwick encouraging the crowd.

After their set, the guys came out to chat to all those who had waited, no rushing, as many items signing as you wish, selfies galore and all the time they seemed to be genuinely happy to meet people and hear their stories. Two thoroughly nice down to earth blokes.

Go and see them, revel in the music and laugh loudly. A perfect tonic to chase away the dark evenings.
