City of Thieves are a hard-hitting heavy rock band from London, who've been around for a few years now under different guises and with a different line-up. Having worked on an EP with Toby Jepson (Little Angels, Wayward Sons), Simon Francis and Mike Fraser, who describes the band as "Killer band...Killer songs", a few years ago, the band are now signed to Frontiers. They released their debut single, 'Buzzed Up City', 11th April, and their album is due later this year.
The single features earthy, gritty vocals with a raw, fierce sound which means business, alongside impressive guitar melodies and soaring riffs, cushioned upon a hefty rhythm section with pounding drums which are quite literally music to my ears. The track is hard and heavy, balancing vintage classic rock with an endearing slice of aggression, great hooks leading to an unsurprisingly slick and catchy chorus.
These guys have captured the stadium rock sound and lead us twisting and turning, weaving through killer riffs, through a familiar style which is highly enjoyable; a hip-moving, head-nodding and foot-tapping monster. The sound has energy and the band show grit and determination and, while they are not quite tearing up the rulebook, they show great potential to make a big impact this year. This is an all-out party track which demands your full attention. You need this band in your life.
