It’s always interesting to listen to a band’s debut single - that first piece of work that you decided to share with the world and start your journey as a group on the rise. Some bands start with even higher expectations than others and that’s definitely the case for Diamond Black.
The band boasts some serious musical talent; Ben Christo (of Sisters of Mercy and Shot Through The Heart”) on Guitar, Jan-Vincent Velazco (Pendragon) on Drums, Adam Lightspeed (StarScream) on bass and finally J.I. Turunen on vocals.
‘Sorrow’ is a superb hard rock/metal song with lean and heavy guitar lines, and more than a hint of Gothic edge in the vocals (think HIM or Luna Sea). With light and shade in the heaviness it is hugely satisfying while the stormy guitar solo by Ben Christo is just right - melodic without losing the fire. It’s one of the best new songs I’ve heard this year. Check it out on YouTube: https://youtu.be/0DD0WJR7ri4.
With plans for more singles this year and a full album to be released in 2018, Diamond Black seem to be at the very beginning of something big. Based on this debut single I for one am very excited to see and hear where they lead us next.
