Interview With VEGA

By Lindsay Smith-Boam

FROM THE EARLY DAYS OF 2009 TO NOW - ANY STAND OUT MOMENT STRANGE OR OTHER?

Loads! The Down n Outs tour, touring with Dan Reed Network, Joe Elliott giving us a song and singing in the album, doing a video where they filmed Rogue One. Every song we write is a pleasure to do even if it's not that great. The whole process is exciting as it comes together. Hanging out with the boys on tour, recording, rehearsals....I love it all.

NICK, THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF COMMENTS FOLLOWING YOUR PERFORMANCES IN SPAIN ON THE SAME BILL AS DANNY VAUGHN SUGGESTING YOU DO A JOINT TOUR WITH TYKETTO (GREAT IDEA!!) - IS THERE ANY BAND PAST OR PRESENT WHO YOU REALLY WOULD LOVE TO TOUR WITH?

Me and Danny have been friends for close on 20 years now when Kick toured with Vaughn. It would be a lot of fun to tour with the Tyketto boys. Past and present inspiring bands are the same really because I'd love to tour with Leppard or Jovi and they are still going strong! New bands I'd love to tour with would be Sixx AM or Nickelback (not that be I know).

DO YOU CONSCIOUSLY SIT DOWN TO WRITE NEW MATERIAL OR IS IT SOMETHING THAT IS A CONSTANT PROCESS?

It's a constant process. We don't stop. We are recording Vega 5 now but will most likely have some songs for V6 before Christmas. Ideas and inspiration can strike at any time and you can't ignore it.

WHO HAVE BEEN THE BIGGEST INFLUENCES ON YOU ALL MUSICALLY?

Everyone knows I'm a Def Leppard nut. They are easily my biggest "go to" band. I love Bon Jovi's lyrics. They seem to get over-looked but they really are good! Aerosmith for the amazing melodies, Tommy Lee for his drum swagger, Michael Hutchence for being pure cool. I could go on and on but all those add to my daily intake of musical medicine.

YOU ARE ALL GOING TO MISS DAN OBVIOUSLY BUT HAS IT PROVED DIFFICULT TO REPLACE HIM?

I don't know if we will miss him that much and I'm sure the feeling is mutual! Haha. Things came to a head and you move on like with anything in life. We have looked at the situation as a positive and I'm sure Dan does as well. We haven't rushed the decision so it's not been too hard. Hutch is an amazing drummer and a great bloke as well. Exciting times ahead for Vega.

THERE ARE DEFINITELY FAN FAVOURITES FOR LIVE SHOWS BUT HAVE YOU EACH GOT A PARTICULAR FAVOURITE TO PERFORM OR ONE YOU WOULD LIKE TO?...

We all love playing Saving grace. It's just a really good up tempo song and a gets the blood pumping. Marcus loves EXPLODE because he's a shredder and likes anything fast and Jim loves Fade into the Flames.

YOU HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR SO LONG - DO YOU STILL GO INTO REHEARSALS BEFORE TOURS AND DO YOU STILL GET NERVOUS PRIOR TO SHOWS?

We all know what we have to do. We will do a day of rehearsal for this tour as we are doing songs not done before. The stuff that we always play won't need any rehearsal. I don't really get nervous. We all have routines before. I always start getting ready 1 hour before showtime. It's a relaxed hour but all I want to do at that point is get on with it, which can come across as nerves but it's pure excitement. I love it.

ANY SUPERSTITIONS OR ROUTINES YOU HAVE BEFORE YOU GO ON STAGE?

Only the "magic hour" mentioned before haha. No lambs are sacrificed backstage but if I don't turn the light off and on 37 times we will all die onstage......haha

IF I WASN'T IN A BAND I'D BE…..trying to get into a band! Ha
