POSTER APRIL 9 sml.jpg

Set aside the River Trent in the beautiful South Derbyshire countryside, Catton Hall is the home of BLOODSTOCK FESTIVAL. A variety of bands come together from all over the world for 4 days of head banging jubilation. BLOODSTOCK takes place Thursday 8th August – Sunday 11th August 2019.

This year over 100 bands join the stage, including big names such as the likes of Sweden’s SABATON, Australia’s PARKWAY DRIVE, America’s SOULFLY, Australia’s THY ARTIS  MURDER, Norway’s DIMMU BORGIR and Germany’s SCORPIONS on the main stage, whilst on the Sophie and New Blood stages we have ROTTING CHRIST from Greece, GRAND MAGUS from Sweden, TAAKE from Norway, ELUVEITIE from Switzerland, ANAKIM from Weymouth (UK), MASTERS CALL from Birmingham (UK) and DAMIM from London (UK) amongst many other magnificent artists.

For the full line up visit

We’ll also see the winners from the Metal To The Masses competitions on the New Blood stage. Unsigned bands from all over the country, and even the depths of Europe, have battled it out over the previous months to secure their place at this year’s BLOODSTOCK  FESTIVAL.

I caught up with Will from ELYREAN, winners of the Wolverhampton competition.

“We are extremely happy and excited to be playing The New Blood Stage at Bloodstock Festival as it has been a dream for every member of Elyrean since the beginning, it’s our favourite Festival to go to! There were so many great bands on and it is an amazing experience every time!

People that come to see us will experience our modern take on thrash metal. We mix the classic thrash sound with technical and melodic death metal taking influence from bands such as Revocation, Sylosis, Slayer and Insomnium. If you enjoy fast riffs, melodic guitar leads and blistering drums then you should come and check out Elyrean!”

There’s plenty to do and see at BLOODSTOCK. There are a variety of shops in the market area, selling items such as clothing, bags, jewellery and even that novelty festival hat you’ve always wanted! There’s a variety of food vendors catering for every taste; you can choose from Mexican, classic fish and chips, to dedicated vegetarian and vegan cuisine. Why not pay Phil and the crew a visit at Motley Brew, serving up a mean cuppa in a chilled and friendly environment, perfect for relaxing at the end of day or just to sober up a bit.

Find yourself with some downtime between bands? Head to the funfair, where the dodgems are always fun after a few swift pints, or watch the BLOODSTOCK’s Strongest Man event.

Weekend tickets include free camping and access to the arena from 12 Noon on Thursday. Day tickets are available to purchase and there’s also a box office on site for that last-minute spur of the moment punter.

Serpent’s Lair VIP upgrade benefits from a private entrance to the arena from campsite and free parking close to camping area, complimentary hot showers and private rest room facilities, access to the pamper parlour with hair dryers, straighteners and mirrors, 10% discount voucher for BLOODSTOCK merchandise purchased at the festival, free Serpents Lair t-shirt and goody bag, access to the hospitality area which includes the VIP bar with over 100 Real Ales & Ciders and priority access to signing tent.

If you prefer a little luxury, there are a number of camping options such as pre-pitched tents, camping pods, Lux Pads, OctoPads and the luxury BellPads, which contain actual beds, bedding and electricity.

Want to go but can’t afford VIP? Don’t worry! The main campsite is the place to be. With the nightly dumpster jousting and “ten peg darts”, these are just a few of the events I’ve personally witnessed over the years. There’s always something entertaining going on! The quiet camp is perfect for families and those who struggle to sleep. There’s also access to showers and ample toilets throughout the campsite, perfect for the no frills back to basic camper.

Fat Franks on site camp shop has everything for the unprepared camper. From the “shower in a can” to waterproof ponchos, they have anything and everything for the forgetful ones.

For those who aren’t a fan of camping, there’s a dedicated campervan site, so no need to leave your luxuries at home.

Easily accessible, just off the main A38 between Lichfield and Burton-on-Trent, with ample parking and even coaches available from further afield.
