Now in its 35th - yes 35th! - year, for those in the know the ROCK AND BLUES CUSTOM SHOW in Derbyshire has become something of an annual pilgrimage. More than just a music festival it is also the host of a custom bike show and draws in bikers from across the country for a weekend of bikes, beer and brilliant bands.

This year the party kicks off on the 25th July, with BAD MANNERS headlining the opening night, Friday’s headliners are Brit rock legends, REEF and closing the festival are one of the powerhouses of the recent classic rock revival, INGLORIOUS. And if that’s not enough for you across the weekend there are three stages of music, the Main Stage, which is covered by a huge marquee, so the show goes on whatever the weather, the Spanner Monkey Outdoor stage and the more intimate Acoustic Stage. The diverse line up includes NWOBHM stalwarts DIAMOND HEAD, up-and-coming bluesman KRIS BARRAS and ex-UFO legend PETE WAY. Alongside the more established acts is a mouth-watering line up for the discerning rock fan, including THE OUTLAW ORCHESTRA, returning after a triumphant set on last year’s Outdoor Stage, GIN ANNIE, PISTON, MYKE GRAY ft. KIM JENNETT, BURNT OUT WRECK, LITTLE RED KINGS and WHITE RAVEN DOWN. And that’s not even close to the full list.

The festival site is well laid out so the sounds from the Main Stage don’t bleed into the other stages but the distance between them all can be covered in no time at all meaning you don’t have to cut short watching a band on the Outdoor Stage to set off on a long trek to the Main Stage, and you’re bound to discover a great band wherever you find yourself. Quite frankly it’s quite ludicrous that you can get all these bands plus camping for the bargain price of £50 in advance or £60 on the door.

Perhaps even more important than the bands and the price is the atmosphere of a festival and ROCK AND BLUES is genuinely one of the friendliest going. Music fans of all ages from toddlers to pensioners wander from stage to stage smiling, laughing and enjoying the excellent music and awesome customised motorbikes on display. And if all this isn’t enough for you, they even offer helicopter rides over the stunning Derbyshire countryside.

So, if you’re after a weekend that’s impossible not to enjoy, high-calibre bands and a beer tent to rival most beer festivals at prices you can’t even get a tap water for in London then the ROCK AND BLUES CUSTOM SHOW is the place for you. But don’t just take my word for it, check out our coverage of last year’s show and have your appetite well and truly whetted.
