The venue is SWG3 in Glasgow and tonight’s main attraction is TAKING BACK SUNDAY. The opening act for this evening is none other than THURSDAY front man GEOFF RICKLY who is performing a one-man acoustical jam! As Geoff takes to the stage, he introduces himself and softly strums his acoustic guitar. Geoff’s voice pierces the darkness as he performs song after song, regaling anecdotes that build up a vivid picture of his experience and outlook of the music industry. Geoff’s presence captures the attention of the assembles audience. This soft introduction to this evening is a nice pallet cleanser and I for one enjoyed it.

Next on the bill, originating from Poway, California are THE FRIGHTS who run onto the stage and without hesitation bust into their set. They are on fire from the first note! Upping the tempo from Geoff, THE FRIGHTS add another dimension to the evening and fans were bopping about as These Californians showed the Glasgow crowd how surf-punk-rock is done in their home town! The band crammed a great deal of songs into their set. By the end they still look like they could go another round! Their energy was raw and really punchy! Great performance.

So, the time had come, and the room seemed to get very full as people moved forward into position to get the best view of the band, it reminded me of a massive game of human Tetris. The time had come and TAKING BACK SUNDAY launched into their first song ‘You Know How I Do’ and the crowd went wild. It’s clear that this band have a large following in sunny old Glasgow. Front man Adam Lazzara, who looked around 7ft tall, from where I was standing in the pit, was constantly on the move as he marched from one side of the stage to the other and back and forth while swinging his microphone in hand. The band powered through around 20 songs before drawing the night to a conclusion with the song ‘Make Damn Sure’.

The fans had an an awesome night and all acts played exceptional well. It would have been nice to see more people during the GEOFF RICKLY’s set though. The only bummer was the poor stage lighting. It started off okay, albeit a little dreary and dull. By the time  TAKING BACK SUNDAY came on the band were difficult to spot on stage and the crowd in the first few rows were better lit than the stage! The inadequate lighting made getting photos of the bands especially difficult…Please Glasgow, sort your lighting out it’s not hard! Remember darkness does not equal atmosphere! Lights make atmosphere! Comprende!!
