SUNFLOWER DEAD - Turn Away (Radio Edit) (Single)
California based hard rockers SUNFLOWER DEAD tackle a powerful subject in their rousing new single ‘Turn Away (Radio Edit)’. The anti-suicide themed song is the follow-up to the successful ‘Victim’, and was produced by Dave Fortman (EVANESCENCE, SLIPKNOT, DISTURBED) and is released through David Ellefson’s EMP Label Group.
Speaking about the new single, front man Michael Del Pizzo says that the song is meant to be empowering and give hope. The band consider the song to be the most important track of their career. When attempts to finish the song were coming to fruition and then thwarted at the last turn by self-sabotage, somehow it seemed to organically reanimate.
The song starts with a simple guitar riff and then hits you in the chest as Michael’s powerful vocals and the pounding drums and bass kick in. It’s moving and emotionally soaked. It ebbs and flows beautifully, full of raw anguish but with a depth of optimism as the vocals breathe life into the lyrics. A haunting song that has stayed with me since I first heard it, making me want to buy everything this band has released. They've got a sale on merch at the moment too! #BuyTheMerch
SUNFLOWER DEAD have come a long way since their early scary make-up wearing days. With the release of their debut eponymous album in 2012, through their own Bloody Bats imprint and follow-up second album ‘It’s Time to Get Weird’ in 2015, the band have taken their music on tour and built a loyal fan base, dubbed The Evil Seeds. Third album ‘COMA’ was released in 2018. Make-up long since removed, the band are now known for their slick and polished stage performances and mighty sound. They embark on a US tour with SCOTT STAPP and MESSER later this month.
